This book was a gift from Pennsylvania historian and archivist, Charles Coleman Sellers (1903-1980) to Dickinson College in 1950, and later withdrawn. Anthony Trollope (1815-1882) was one of the most successful, prolific and respected English novelists of the Victorian era. In 1827, his mother, Frances Trollope, moved to America with Trollope's three younger siblings, but Anthony stayed in England throughout. His mother returned in 1831 and rapidly made a name for herself as a writer, especially for her Domestic Manners of the Americans (1832). His mother's book was full of negative comment. In this work, Anthony gives a more favorable account of Americans and their customs. It is especially valuable for his comments on the American Civil War then raging. **PRICE JUST REDUCED! W29
