El islam me estaba cambiando. En 2004 Theo Padnos abandonó su trabajo de profesor de poesía en Vermont y se mudó a Yemen donde se matriculó en una escuela religiosa como musulmán. Se metió de lleno en las enseñanzas del islam aprendió árabe y memorizó el Corán. Fue bien acogido por la comunidad y poco a poco se hizo su hueco en los círculos fundamentalistas. Su historia no es única pues otros han huido a Yemen en busca de un modo de vida más puro. Algunos se encuentran con algo más peligroso. Theo hizo este viaje no buscando su propio desarrollo personal sino para ver por qué muchos occidentales cambian radicalmente su vida y así entender la transformación que muchos sufren allí en las montañas.
