First published in 1981 under the title Plant Hunting in Nepal, this new edition is much enlarged with updated nomenclature and an additional chapter on a subsequent visit to Nepal by the author, and with more illustrations. Although the book's emphasis is on the wide variety of plants found in the area, the author also describes the expedition's many adventures, parties with the Tibetans, birds and animals, the Nepalese people and their lives, beautifully illustrated.

The text is based on Southey, Mawe, Luccock, Henderson, Maria Graham, Maximilian, Lindley, Beauchamp, Martius, etc, the plates also taken from these works. Borba da Moraes 577: 'It is an excellent collection and very well produced and was first published in 1824 and reprinted in 1830'. Almost entirely on Brazil, with a small section on Uruguay, the work describes the cities, towns, mining, each province described in detail, topography, customs, economy, etc. The plates include views, activities, market place in Buenos Ayres, etc.

A picture of this book is Griffin 263: 'An account based on Harcourt's colonizing voyage to Guiana in 1608-1609, reprinted from the 1613 first edition, but includes the additions made by Harcourt in the second edition. Another appendix contains a report on the Marwin (Maroni) River sent to Harcourt in about 1612. The Relation is useful for its ethnography, natural history and scheme for colonization.' Cox ii, 256: 'A valuable supplement to Raleigh's narrative of 1596.' National Maritime Museum 299. Sabin 30297, referring to the 1613 and 1626 editions:' Both editions are very rare'.
