A narrative of the author's two journeys across Africa, the first from the Cameroons, Gaboon and following the equator to Lake Victoria to Mombassa, the second somewhat further south through Tanganyika to the River Congo on the Atlantic, to study ethnology and natural history. The author was a well regarded expert on African languages and provided extensive language specimens and relationships of tribes based on language in the appendix.

RDA was a political party in French West Africa and French Equatorial Africa, important in the decolonization of the French empire. The RDA was composed of different political parties throughout the French colonies in Africa and lasted from 1946 until 1958. The preface for the acts was written by Felix Houphouet-Boigny (1905-1993), affectionately called Papa Houphouët or Le Vieux (The Old One), who was the founder and first president of RDA, and the first President of Cote d'Ivoire (1960 to 1993). 4.5kg.
