In 1979, Griffiths wrote to Heerma van Voss: "I have had a stroke of luck with the earliest known representation of Osiris. It has never published before and so I thought it would be nice as the frontispiece of my book." He further asked Heerma van Voss to send the photograph to Brill for inclusion in the book which was still in preparation. Heerma van Voss did just that and the earliest known representation of Osiris has been published in this book a year later. ~ [NOTE:] It should be noted that Brill publishers currently offer this book as a digitalized - laser-printed - reproduction, a so-called print-on-request, while not identifying this as such, but presenting it as a "new" copy from the original edition, which now is over 50 years old. We have examined and compared both editions, and the difference in quality is obvious to the bare eye. Might be of importance for the purists to be aware of this.
