Two volumes. Royal quarto. I. Text: Pp. viii, 273, plus one plate; II. Plates: Pp. iv, plus 50 large plates, many of which are folding, all printed in fine collotype on thick paper. Hardcover, uniformly bound in the original publisher's brown full cloth, gilt lettering to cover and spine; short nick at head of one spine. In fine condition, crisp plates. ~ First edition. Catalogo del Museo Egizio di Torino, Serie Prima: Monumenti e Testi, Volume I. ~"The long-expected publication of the 45 Demotic papyri which are found, together with five others, written in Greek (published by M. Norsa and G. Vitelli in 'Papiri greci e latini della Società italiana, II, [1929], by Schiaparelli in 1905 in the neighbourhood of the temple of Deir e-Medina. They are at present in the Museo Egizio in Turin." - Annual Egyptological Bibliography, 67083 (1967). The wonderful plates are printed in collotype, one of the most accurate and attractive methods of photomechanical tonal printing processes. Highly skilled and expensive process, it cannot produce more than a limited number of impressions. It has been used for single-sheet prints and luxury portfolios, and since the 1950s has been abandoned by all except a few small specialist firms. [TOGETHER WITH:] Karl-Theodor Zauzich: "Korrekturvorschläge zur Publikation des demotischen Archivs von Deir el-Medineh, I-III." Three parts in one volume. Quarto. Pp. 43-56; 85-96; 63-70. (Wiesbaden, Harrassowitz, 1973). Sonderuck aus Encoria, 1971-73. Published here for the first time in its completeness, Zauzich's "Companion" to Botti's work is of essential importance. Dedicated and signed by the author. [ADDED:] In 1969 Zauzich published an extended review of Botti's work in "Bibliotheca Orientalis". An offprint of this review is herewith added. A unique scholar's copy from the library of Egyptologist Prof. Dr. Herman De Meulenaere (1923-2011).
Quarto. Unpaginated. Comprising of 3 sections: Paragraphs 1-145; plus ca. 30 leaves with different pagination; plus xxxix leaves of Additional Series of Notes. Typewriter produced manuscript printed on recto only. Hardcover, nicely bound in navy blue full cloth; very few underlines in red pencil. In mint condition. ~ Extremely rare original manuscript by the renowned Egyptologist Jaroslav Cerny (1898-1970). Comprising essentially of 3 parts, the manuscript was edited by Herbert Walter Fairman (1907-1982), and copied in 1952 by Constant de Wit (1907-1989). In her memorial volume to Cerny (Rome, BIP, 1975) Sarah Israelit Groll says that the first section, paragraphs 1-145 (Prepositions, nouns and verbs), was first copied by Caminos in 1950 for Gardiner and is now in the Griffith Institute. As far as we are aware, no comparison has ever been made between the two versions. The present manuscript is a direct carbon copy of the typed manuscript. The hieroglyphic text is handwritten in pencil directly on the paper, apparently by De Wit. The second section which is typed here as integral continuation of the first, has entries on Negation, Prothetic aleph in L. E., Periphrasis with "iri", Relative Clauses, Relatives (Participles), Non-Verbal Sentences, Participles. It is assumed that this section was not included in Caminos' copy of 1950 and appears here for the first time. The last section, titled "Additional Series of Notes", Pp. xxxix, is reproduced on photocopier. [Provenance:] From the library of Egyptologist Prof. Dr. Michel Malaise (1943-2016) with his signature in pencil to title-page.

Conradus Leemans (1809-1893) was the first Egyptologist to publish a systematic catalogue of all the contents of one of the major European Egyptological collections. He began the great official gouvernment publication of the monuments and papyri in the Leiden collection in 1839, which appeared in parts from then until 1882. Beinlich-Seeber 11574, attributing the work to Leemans.

In a very good condition, fine interiors. ~ First edition. Complete set. Volume II completed and revised by William Stevenson Smith and published posthumously. George Andrew Reisner (1867-1942) was the first person to make fully systematic excavations in Egypt, exploiting the technique of recorded digging much further than Petrie and earlier archaeologists had done. This attention to every detail and the scrupulous care taken meant that although his reports were much fuller than those of his predecessors, they also required much more time for preparation, resulting in a great part of his work remaining incomplete and unpublished at his death. His publications were of great importance and of monumental proportions, with a detailed study unknown before his time. The wonderful plates in Volume I are printed in collotype, one of the most accurate and attractive methods of photomechanical tonal printing processes. Highly skilled and expensive process, it cannot produce more than a limited number of impressions. It has been used for single-sheet prints and luxury portfolios, and since the 1950s has been abandoned by all except a few small specialist firms. Beinlich-Seeber 16565 (vol. I).

417 pages. Index. Appendices. Footnotes. List of sixty black and white illustrations. A rare surviving copy of this important reference, made all the more engaging by today's environment of competing fiat currency devaluations. "Hitherto Numismatists when stydying the Origines of Coinage had confined themselves to the materials presented to them in the earliest money of Lydia, Greece and Italy, and on the other hand the Metrologists had almost completely limited their range of observation to the systems of Babylon, Egypt, Greece and Rome. As the Comparative Method has yielded such excellent results in the study of other human institutions, I have endeavoured by its aid to get some new principles which may throw some fresh light on the first beginnings of monetary and weight systems." - from Preface. Attractive gilt decoration upon green front board. Legible gilt lettering upon backstrip. Average external soiling and wear. Several chips from and lengthy openings along backstrip which has become brittle with age. Narrow opening along most of front hinge. Back hinge open. Bookplate discretely removed inside front board. Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) n original cloth bdg. Large roy. 8vo. (25 x 17 cm). In Ottoman script. 90 p. Hegira: 1260 = Gregorian: 144. First, only and extremely rare Ottoman Turkish translation and 'Bulaq Edition' of this account of Napoleon described as 'Extrait du Memorial de Sainte-Helene. The Bulaq or El-Amiriya Press is the first official and governmental printing press to be established in Egypt, and function according to industrial printing basis, causing not just a qualitative but also a quantitative and knowledgeable leap in science throughout the Arab region. The Bulaq Press was part of Mohamed Aly's inclusive development plans for the modernization of Egypt. The Khedive first initiated his plans by establishing a strong Egyptian army; one that is capable of strengthening his grip on the country. It thus became essential that this army be provided with the necessary instructive and educational books and material, by which to learn military plans and techniques, as well as the different types of artillery and laws that define a soldier's duties and rights. A pressing need eventually developed for establishing a governmental press; one that should provide such material. By 1815 CE., Mohamed Aly initiated the process of bringing the art of printing to Egypt by sending the first official delegation, headed by Nicole El Masabki, to Milan in Italy, to learn the principles of printing. The same delegation was later able to return and establish the first official press in Egypt. This rare and unusual book published and printed in Bulaq Press shortly after the foundation of the printing house. After his final defeat at Waterloo and his subsequent second exile, Napoleon Bonaparte spent 10 weeks on board the HMS Northumberland as it sailed him to the far-flung reaches of the South Atlantic. His destination was St. Helena, a small and windswept island under British control. Almost 2000 kilometers west of Africa, St. Helena measured only 122 square kilometers (47 square miles) - half the size of his former home-in-exile, Elba. His intended home, Longwood, was not finished by the time he arrived and so Bonaparte stayed with a British family - the Balcombes- at their residence The Briars. He made a great friend of the family's younger daughter Betsy and the pair got on famously. Napoleon was given very few privileges. Once he met a slave and desired to free him, the English government denied his request on the grounds that he was trying to align with the slaves and start an insurrection. Napoleon spent most of his days dictating his memoirs to his generals, reading plays, novels, and the latest books from Europe that his captors would allow him. He spent six years there, though there are really only anecdotes to describe his life at the time, which, for the most part, carry expressions of loneliness and boredom. Extremely rare. Only six paper copies found in OCLC: 777091409. Cairo FKT 185.; Özege 10976. First Edition.
