At the time of publication he was already a Doctor of Laws and was just appointed assistant Conservator in the Egyptian collections at the Musées Royaux. The article was published in February 1900 and is comprising of extracts from his doctoral dissertation which, apparently, was never published. There is a record of only one article that was published earlier, "Notes sur les origines de l'Égypte d'après les fouilles recentes", which appeared in 1899, also in Revue de l'université de Bruxelles. Very limited in number when originally issued and fragile by nature, most are by now practically extinct and the scarce survivors are much sought after.
