Brown 1/4 calf blue-gray paper covered boards leather title label mounted on upper spine panel with the word "Voyages" in gilt 7 gilt spine bands. 311 pp. Moderate shelf wear rubbed with exposure along edges leather showing some surface rubbing but still nicely intact. Binding firm. Vintage owner signature of G. W. C. Evans on front pastedown otherwise unmarked. Unfortunately lacking main title so we are unable to confirm publisher edition or year of issue and we have been unable to match this copy based on pagination; printer indicated as R. Carr Church-Alley on final page of text thus indicating this edition to have been printed in Philadelphia most likely in the first decade of the 19th century Carr is listed as a printer at 19 and 10 Church Alley in the 1808 Philadelphia City Directory and other of his printings located institutionally are dated 1803-10. Interior otherwise decently intact with scattered foxing generally light ranging in a few places to moderate. This edition does not appear to have contained illustrations or maps. Hardcover

Hug (1765-1846) war Professor für orientalische Sprachen, Altes und Neues Testament in Freiburg. Die schönen gefalteten Kupfer zeigen 3 Motive: Die beiden Himmels-Halbkugeln mit den Sternzeichen , den Himmelskreis und den Tierkreis im Tempel zu Tentyra (Dendera) in Oberägypten (der aus zwei Tafeln besteht). Ohne das Porträt des Autors, das wohl einigen Exemplaren beigegeben wurde. Ein schönes, gut erhaltenes Exemplar mit nur leichten Gebrauchsspuren.

This volume describes the plates of the Atlas volume. Additionally there are important Appendices about the pyramids at Geza Alexandria minerals medicine "Memoire sur le Commerce des Negres au Caire et sur les Maladies ." etc. This British edition with French text is quite scarce. G. Browne (1768-1813). Die Reise durch Afrika, Ägypten und Syrien war die erste von drei mehrjährigen Forschungsreisen welche Browne, durch eine Erbschaft finanziell unabhängig geworden, unternahm. "Bis auf Gustav Nachtigal, der als zweiter europäischer Beobachter erst 75 Jahre später ins Land kam, blieb Brownes Bericht maßgeblich für die europäische Kenntnis" (Henze).
