XLVIII-236pp.-1ff . ; 2ff.-237-476pp. Pour le compte de la Société africaine de Londres, Hornemann (1772-1801) explora une partie du nord-est africain, il atteignit Mourzouk, capitale du royaume de Fezzan (dans l'actuel sud-ouest de la Libye) en rejoignant, déguisé en marchand mahométan, une caravane qui partait du Caire. Il y resta jusqu'en 1799 avant de partir vivre à Tripoli. Il repartit ensuite en Afrique et voyagea dans le Nigeria. With an engraved Baronial bookplate possibly John Henry Vivian or his son Sir Arthur Pendarves Vivian member of the Royal Geographical Society inked name on recto of frontispiece the frontispiece caption is trimmed and spotted. <br/><br/>Denon a noted artist and engraver accompanied Napoleon's troops into Egypt to record the scenery and antiquities. This volume describes the plates of the Atlas volume. Additionally there are important Appendices about the pyramids at Geza Alexandria minerals medicine "Memoire sur le Commerce des Negres au Caire et sur les Maladies ." etc. This British edition with French text is quite scarce. An 1809 re-issue had cancelled title-pages. Note: curiously the printed title-page reads "Voyages" not in the singular as listed elsewhere. Copperplate frontispiece. Samuel Bagster hardcover
