In-8° (cm. 24,2), pp. da p. 451 a p. 459) + 2 CARTE TOPO e GEOGRAFICHE (una ripiegata) fuori testo. Brossura provvisoria in carta decorata muta monocroma. Brutte cifre a biro in capo alla prima facciata. Ottimo il resto. La fossa Regia fu il primo tratto di limes africanus. Rappresentò per almeno un quarantennio il confine meridionale della provincia romana d'Africa, con fini più che altro amministrativi, piuttosto che militari. Essa fu costruita, al momento dell'annessione di Scipione Emiliano (nel 146 a.C.), con un semplice fossato. SAUMAGNE, avvocato, storico, archeologo tunisino. servendosi per primo della fotografia aerea per l'archeologia rivelò la centuriazione romana della Tunisia, scoprì con Cintas io sito di Kerkouane, favorì gli agricoltori, rifiutò Vivhy, favorì l'indipendenza. Esemplare da studio, ma di gran rilievo.

Evocative travel diary. Fielding (1918-1991) was one of the first SOE agents (with Paddy Leigh Fermor and Dick Barnes) to be landed in Crete where he spent two years or so in a precarious game of hide and seek with the occupying Germans. Arrested in France later in the war, he was saved from execution by the Polish SOE agent Krystyna Skarbek. In post-war years a close friend of Lawrence Durrell, Fielding developed a career as writer and translator, achieving acclaim for his translation of 'The Bridge on the River Kwai'. In common with all TBC editions, this issue omits the plates and map present in the original.
