Prima non comune edizione di questo importante scritto dedicato all’Uganda dell’inizi del XX° secolo. Charles William Hattersley (1866–1934) era un missionario britannico che si unì alla Church Missionary Society all'inizio del 1897 dopo aver gestito una coltelleria a Sheffield. Nel settembre dello stesso anno lasciò l'Inghilterra per l'Uganda, dove aiutò a creare il sistema di istruzione primaria, fu coinvolto nell'educazione dei figli dei capi ugandesi e alla fine prestò servizio come preside della scuola della Missionary Society Church sulla collina di Mengo a Kampala. Fotografo dilettante entusiasta, Hattersley divenne il fotografo ufficiale della corte e della chiesa ugandesi. Il suo Uganda descritto in “Pen and Camera”, pubblicato dalla Religious Tract Society a Londra, venne edito con lo scopo principale di reclutamento di nuovi missionari, ma il libro contiene anche informazioni preziose sulla storia e la cultura dell'Uganda. Il primo capitolo descrive l'arduo viaggio intrapreso dai missionari per raggiungere l'Uganda. Dust jacket not price clipped or marked or torn or creased. 172pp. An account of the depraved regime of Idi Amin in Uganda in the late 1970s where murder, torture, imprisonment and mutilation were standard methods used on anyone he wanted to by Amin who had been humiliated by the Israeli's Entebbe Raid. The story is told by Wycliffe Kato who had been Assistant Director General of Civil Aviation at the time of his arrest and imprisonment. He tells of his time in custody and how he managed to escape to Nairobi. Very scarce.
