This volume consists of Friedrich Hornemann's Travels, 1797-98 from Cairo to Murzuk and Laing's trip to Timbuktu from 1824 to 1826.

Lo studio, illustrato con fotografie e figure al tratto, analizza ogni aspetto della lingua, storia, tecniche, attività produttive, abbigliamento, arti, organizzazione sociale e famigliare, riti funebri e matrimoniali, diritto, credenze religiose ecc. interessante resoconto di prima mano.
