La regina di Ghera, sospettando fossero inviati di Menelik fece imprigionare il Cecchi e il suo compagno Chiarini. Durante la detenzione il Chiarini mori' e Cecchi venne liberato solo nel 1880 per intercessione del Negus Giovanni. Zavatti, Diz. esploratori, p. 64.

Conosciuto come cartografo olandese per il sua opera cartografica monumentale in sette volumi “Atlas Historique” pubblicata ad Amsterdam con i suoi fratelli. Mappa piegata editorialmente dell'Africa nord-orientale, del Mar Rosso e della penisola arabica e mostra le divisioni politiche e i regni. Il Nilo ha origine nelle montagne vicino al L. de Dambee. Vengono illustrati i fiumi, laghi e montagne. Rilievo illustrato pittoricamente. Include testo con annotazioni. Restauro per strappo in basso al centro
