114124Moscow: Foreign Languages Publishing House nd. Hardbound. Text block very clean and tight; some sunning to covers and general wear to dj but still nice and intact. Pale green cloth with illustration of a piano in typical retro style; black matte dj with white illustration and lettering; 334 pp. with bw illustrations throughout. Translated from the Russian by Rose Prokofiev. The compiler's preface states that the material used for this volume was made available by the State Music Publishers in Moscow in 1956 so this presumably is the 1959 edition. A very in-depth look at Prokofiev's life and musical thought albeit under the watchful eye of the Soviet publishers of that time with material provided by the state-run music publishing house. It would be interesting to compare this volume with a more current "unencumbered" one. Still a very good book with many photographs of the composer and colleagues in the music field.
