Two-inch tear to upper left corner along edge of slipcase. Frontispiece. A beautiful reflection on Lorca's famous poetry about his friend Ignacio Sanchez Mejias the matador that was killed in a bullfight. "Ignacio Sanchez Mejias death which was tragic as his life was inspiring swept Spain with a sorrow comparable to that following the death of a great public figure. It was responsible for a poem which is not only the finest dirge ever written for the death of a bullfighter but also one of the greatest lyric poems in the Spanish language. In turn this poem has inspired four of the strongest most original paintings since those of Goya" which are present in this volume. This is one of a limited edition of 900. The four color paintings by Short are laid-in in a pocket at rear. Illustrated with full-page and in-text b/w plates and one double-page photograph. Most of the plates show the famous matador in the arena. Includes the poem. With commentary by Jose Maria De Cosso Robert Vavra and Roy Campbell. <br /> <br /> Slipcase with some splitting along the top and bottom edges as well as some smudges and scratches. Binding with some minor rubbing to extremities. Minor scratches/smudges to the covers with ever slight bowing to the boards.
