Comprehensive history of Algeria from Ancient Carthage to the then present of French control. Binding and text blocks are tight. Some occasional foxing and on some pages it is considerable as inevitable given the paper stock used. The costume color plates though are attractive and mostly clean albeit their paper is toned a bit. With one duplicate copy; laid in is a small flyer depicting the Czechoslovak and US flags with the text "The American people greet the Czechoslovak peoples' opposition in their fight for a free tomorrow." Very good. Scarce anti-communist flyer in Czech one duplicate copy in all likelihood printed in Germany by Free Europe Press and distributed over Czechoslovakia via balloon in 1954. The flier mentions the recent currency reform 1953 which decimated the savings of peasants and workers and led to considerable unrest. It addresses workers and peasants as members of a "people's opposition" and urges them to raise awareness among others about possible forms of resistance and the growth of the opposition movement. It also references the "Ten Demands" list compiled by Radio Free Europe workers based on interviews with Czechoslovak refugees. The "envelope" features a printed stamp with T. G. Masaryk and the "postal stamp" reads "Pravda vÃtÄžÃ" or "The truth wins." Also laid in is a small flyer depicting the Czechoslovak and US flags with the text "The American people greet the Czechoslovak peoples' opposition in their fight for a free tomorrow." The envelopes were sent on April 29 1954 and were also issued in Slovak. "In the 1950s at the height of the Cold War numerous psychological warfare leaflets were prepared by the Free Europe Press FEP of the Free Europe Committee. The group worked in cooperation with Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty with the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency CIA funding much of the operations. FEP leaflets were a major part of the post-World War II psychological warfare battle between East and West. Scarce anti-communist flyer in Czech printed in Germany by Free Europe Press and distributed over Czechoslovakia via balloon from 1954 to 1956. With short articles in Czech and Slovak the publication informed Czechoslovak readers about political news unavailable to them.
