Back end pages and edges are marbled. Paper is tanned and brittle and corners are chipped and there is a small closed tear on lower margin of t.p. This portion is followed by 165 art plates "engraved on copper by the Best Italian Artists Illustrating Five Hundred Objects From Every Branch Of Art And Archaeology by Domenico Monaca Curator Of The Naples Museum With Descriptive Letterpress Carefully Revised And Amplified From The Best Authorities And An Historical And Descriptive Sketch Of Pompeii And Herculaneum by E. Neville Rolfe Esq. B.A." The plates are on fine paper that is still strong and only faintly age-toned suitable for framing. Binding is firm and gilt lettering on crimson front boards is still bright. However the edges of the boards are abraded and the lower corners of the boards are missing entirely. Lettering effaced on darkened spine. 4to. Extra postage required.
