14216The 'Note of Fees' dated November 1814. Horne's receipt from Edinburgh 18 November 1814. Both items in good condition on lightly-aged paper. The 'Note of Fees' is 1p. 4to and comprises 11 charges totalling £44 2s 0d. Docketted on reverse. Among the charges are: 'Herald Painter for painting writing and Emblazoning Arms in Patent £2 2s 0d' 'Herald Painter's Charge for Sketches both of the Arms of Lord Balgray and Miss Robertson: - one in colour given to his Lordship Seven in pen and Ink sent to him at Ormiston Hall and one given to Learmouth & Co. Coachmakers £2 2s 0d' together with 'Lyon Clerk for Extra Trouble £6 6s 0d'. The receipt is 1p. 12mo and is docketted on the reverse 'Note of Fees of Arms For Miss William Boyd Robertson of Lawers Novr. 1814.' It carries two embossed four pence tax stamps is signed by 'James Horne Lyon dept.' and reads: 'Edinburgh 18th. November 1814 Received from Mrs. Robertson Williamson by the hands of Messrs. Dundas & Rollo W.S. Forty four pounds two shillings Stg being in full payment of the annexed note of the Fees of her Patent of Armorial Bearings.' The 'Note of Fees' dated November 1814. In original wraps with 11.5 x 7 cm label pasted on cover with coloured illustration of a man performing a magic trick for a group of ladies beneath the title 'EVENING PASTIMES OR AMUSEMENTS FOR HEARTHS AND HOMES'. In fair condition a tight copy on aged paper in worn wraps. Ownership stamp of the Sussex ornithologist H. L. F. Guermonprez on front free endpaper. After '. Puzzles and Paradoxes' the title continues: 'With a Series of Comic Lessons for Fireside Recreation.' Among the sections are 'Transposition of Letters' 'Conundrums' 'Enigmas and Riddles' 'Charades' 'Practical Puzzles and Paradoxes' and 'The Alliterative Lesson'. The second half of the volume is devoted to 'Parlour Games'. Scarce: no copy in the British Library or on OCLC and the only copy on COPAC at the National Library of Scotland by which it is tentatively dated to the 1880s. See Image. 11899Printed not stated. 1892. 4pp. 12mo. Printed in brown on cream laid paper. Fair on lightly-aged paper. 58 lines in 13 stanzas. Headpiece attributed to Crane in pencil at head of first page and clearly his central figure of Diana with reapers on either side. The first stanza reads: 'I'll rede ye a lay of a goodly band That gathered from near and far To a broad fair Strath of Bonnie Scotland 'Mid the woods and waters rare.' Second stanza: 'O! the Manse of Kinloch a warm retreat Stands up on the hillside clear; And Marlee House lies snugly sweet On the marge of the crystal mere.' References to 'Young Sidney and Edmund names of renown' and 'a Printer's Devil come from the East'. Dated in type for a second time at the end: 'SEPTEMBER 17 1892.' Scarce: the only copy on WorldCat or COPAC in the National Library of Scotland. Printed not stated. [1892.] unknown

The present volume is the most important one, it consists of 12 papers on several physical and biological aspects of the lakes (surface oscillations, temperatures, chemistry, botany, sediments, plankton, etc.) and some general limnological issues, and a very large bibliography of limnological literature of about 2,700 references covering pages 659 through 752. This volume is considered as a classic contribution to the study of limnology, a reprint edition appeared in 1977 (New York: Arno Press).

Elle renferme le récit d’un crime barbare prerpetré par les “Fils du brouillard” un clan de bandits des Highlands, récit à la fois sinistre, sentimental et épique. Traduction anonyme. C’est la première traduction de ce roman. En 1828 il sera retraduit par les frères Chaillot, puis par Albert de Montrémont en 1830.Exemplaire dans des reliures romantiques particulièrement élégantes.

Elegant copy of a scarce pamphlet more usually found contained within 'Miscellanea Scotica' (1818-1820). The Commissioners included John Marquis of Tweedale, William Earl of Annandale, John Lord Murray, Sir James Stewart, Adam Cockburn, Sir Archibald Hope, Sir William Hamilton, Sir James Ogilvie and Adam Drummond. VERY SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION. See Davies 2952.
