James also tells of his falling in love with English noblewoman Joan Beaufort and a dream vision in which he learns about good and bad fortune from Minerva. The poem incorporates the popular Chaucerian style with the original Middle Scots dialect. The result is a fascinating poem that Norton-Smith helps the reader to understand.
