It includes legislation concerning allegiance public registers military muster control foreign communication restrictions and coinage reform. These acts document the governmental and religious structure of Scotland during the early years of the joint monarchy. Condition: Good. Full leather binding with rubbing and corner wear spine firm mild age toning throughout early ink handwriting on blank leaves. Folio 11.75 x 7.25 in. Original penciled drawings on rear fly leaf. All edges gilt. Small square 8vo. 19 cm. Original full green cloth binding. Scottish thistle decoration in black and gold on front board. Title printed in black over gold. XLib. Beveled edges. Extremities lightly worn with slight loss. Early ownerships on title. Rear flyleaf has drawings by Arthur S. Veit, dated 5/14/1899, showing a military cadet with rifle in profile, and the head of a young lady with hat. Arthur Stobo Veit (1884-1912), son of a manager of the Standard Oil Company, attended Montclair Military College, Pennsylvania Military Academy, and the Hill School before going to Columbia as part of the Class of 1907. These drawings were probably done while he was at the PA Military Academy. He left Columbia in 1905 to join the Standard Oil Company. In 1912 he committed suicide on a New York street, the cause of his distrees was a great mystery at the time - and remains so today. POETRY BOX 4

With four versions of the Ballad of Good Counsel from the earliest to the restored version the latter being founded upon collation of the other three. Edited by Walter William Skeat a British philologist and Anglican deacon. Previously held in the library of Sir Charles Bine Renshaw a Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party politician. Bound in half crushed morocco with marbled boards. Externally very smart with light wear to the extremities and fading to the spine. Internally firmly bound. Publisher's original cobalt blue cloth boards with gilt lettering to the front and back boards and to the spine. The blue boards are bright clean and unfaded. The gold-stamped gilt lettering is crisp highly legible with no fading whatsoever. Pages have aged gracefully to a light cream/off-white. There is no "foxing". The hinges are starting to weaken but are still holding firm. "The Kenya Settlers Cookery Book and Household Guide" published by the East African Standard in Nairobi for the St. Andrews Church Womans Guild isnt just a recipe book it is a historical window into the domestic life of 1950s Kenya.
