"Prima edizione francese". “John Knox, libraire, né en Ecosse, jouissait d’une bonne réputation à Londres; il consacra la fortune qu’il avait amassée dans cette profession à divers objets d’utilité publique, notamment à relever la peche du hareng, et provoqua pour cet effet des souscriptions, afin d’établir des ports ou villages de peche sur différents points des cotes orientales et septentrionales d’Ecosse, qui en étaient dépourvues. Depuis 1764 jusqu’en 1775, il fit seize voyages dans ce royaume, et fut honorablement secondé par la société highlandaise, formée à Londres, qui appréciait ses connaissances et son dévoument. Aprés son voyage dans les Hébrides, il publia ses excursions patriotiques, sous le titre de "Tour through the Highlands of Scotland" (1785), traduit en français en 1790.
