Original full blond morocco elaborately decorative binding with a pictorial chromolithographic display of fine narcissus flowers a Swiss national symbol of the red cross and the motto "Liberte et Patrie" Freedom and Country/Fatherland on the upper cover the titles in gilt all edges gilt highly decorative endsheets a gold-floral pattern; somewhat soiled covers rubbed yet well preserved. A lovely and unusual decorative "gift" binding. Scarce. English language edition also issued in German 1898. This account is very well illustrated showing details of the environs in a way that is surely uncommon. Among the known photographers are Louis Blanc Alfred Bruand an optician named Fransioli and professor Hans Schardt 1858-1931 geologist of Montreux. / Emil Yung the upper cover gives the author's name as "Emile Yung" a different spelling was a professor at the University of Geneva. He was the 1st Scotsman and only the 7th person to reach the peak of Mont Blanc in 1827. That he was a notable artist is proven by his sketches here. The 1828 1st edition was a quarto. " . the author has selected the present size octavo as more convenient than that in which it was originally published. In adapting the lithographic embellishments he has been enabled to improve them; and he has added two maps of extraordinary merit. Several additions have been made to the work -- Preface to the Second Edition." Presentation Copy inscribed by Auldjo to William Forsyth Grant probably Dr. Wm. F. Grant of Jamaica d.1834 which may explain the foxing.
