First edition of this excellent Victorian travelogue of climbing and hiking through the Swiss Alps which also made a significant contribution to modern geology. Lubbock’s work in this treatise and others were noted for understanding the archaeological and geological record in understanding former valley-floor levels and the river terraces in response to geological changes. He was an early proponent in glacial climatic fluctuation which was not widely accepted at the end of the 19th century.
