The Fiskars Corporation was formed in 1649 when a Dutch merchant named Peter Thorwöste was given a charter to establish a blast furnace and forging operation in the small village of Fiskars. The furnace produced pig iron that was shingled to wrought iron in the finery forges powered by water wheels. In the early years, Fiskars made nails, wire, hoes, and metal reinforced wheels from wrought iron. As industrial and economic development accelerated in Europe, Fiskars was on the forefront of innovation, and expanded the knifeworks to become a premier steel and ironworks company, manufacturing agricultural machinery, steam engines, and household utensils, including candlesticks, forks, and scissors. The first pair of Fiskars scissors was created more than 130 years ago, and made of heavy forged steel. One of their most recognizable products, the orange colored scissors were designed in 1967. Fiskars was also one of the first companies in Europe to manufacture microwave ovens. Fiskars was listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange in 1915. The Fiskars Corporation (Fiskars Oyj Abp) is a metal and consumer brands company founded in 1649 at Fiskars Bruk (Finnish: Fiskarsin Ruukki), a locality now in the town of Raseborg, Finland, about 100 kilometres (62 mi) west of Helsinki on the old main road from Turku to Vyborg. Fiskars is best known today for its scissors, axes and high-quality knives.

A fabulous celebration of gay life in the early eighties styled on the world's most popular family board game. In 1983 the 'Parker Sisters' published this pirated version of Parker Brother's game of Monopoly with 'Profits donated to AIDS Research and Support groups' quote from the box. The Sisters were promptly sued by the Brothers and for nearly forty years Gay Monopoly has been coming out of the closet for a queer take on the classic board game. The game board features a large illustration by Tom of Finland and bears his printed signature. The publishers paid Tom of Finland a licensing fee for the use of his image in the design of the game. It is a notable example of Tom's imagery being used in an authorised manner for a commercially produced object at a time when there was mass piracy of his artworks. Giuseppe Acerbi (Castel Goffredo 1773-1846) noto come Direttore della "Biblioteca italiana", nel 1799, in compagnia del bresciano Bernardo Bellotti compie un viaggio nei Paesi dell'Europa settentrionale. Luigi G. de Anna ricostruisce l'itinerario culturale e ideologico di Acerbi, che da posizioni filo-giacobine lo porterà a sostenere la politica culturale dell'Impero d'Austria in Italia, subendo per questo, in quanto austriacante, la damnatio memoriae dei contemporanei e dei posteri. Giuseppe Acerbi compì, primo italiano, l'ascesa a Capo Nord per via di terra. Partito da Stoccolma, arrivò a Turku in Finlandia nel marzo del 1799. Farà poi una lunga sosta ad Oulu, nel nord della Finlandia. Acerbi in Lapponia raccolse esemplari della fauna, della flora e della mineralogia, da lui accuratamente descritti nei suoi Taccuini.
