Frontispieces profusely illustrated throughout indexes; slightly browning along margins endpapers lightly foxed. Original quarter gilt-stamped maroon calf over dark blue textured cloth binding by W. Scovell Wolverhampton; extremities rubbed joint cracked on vol. I vols. 6 & 8 with minor kozo repair to outer joint. Bookplates of Frederick C. Thompson corner text scoured off. Very good. BEAUTIFULLY BOUND AND FULLY ILLUSTRATED. This revised edition had been enhanced with additional beautiful and "originally drawings by the best artists" title. We have eight volumes; some other sets include two additional volumes but this history here is complete to the year 1898. Laid in are at least two leaves of advertisements including one from Cassell & Company publishers for the Thanksgiving Service at St. Paul’s Cathedral on Diamond Jubilee Day June 22 1897. Another sheet is a tipped in insert to Vol. III from the Koko-Maricopas Co. Ltd. to prevent graying of hair and "prevents hair falling" Cassell, [ca.1899]. hardcover books
