A novel about Princess Mary, daughter of King Stephen, who led a sheltered religious life until the age of 20 when she was elected Abbess of Romsey. She was also heiress to estates in France, including Bolougne and for political reasons Henry II arranged a marriage to Matthew of Flanders.
