October 23d in the year 1840. He came of one of the best known New England families and inherited that dogged determination of his ancestors which enabled them and him to overcome such obstacles in their path as would have caused fainter hearts to turn aside." This book is Williams travels to Island of Nevis Port of Spain St. Kitts St. Eustatius San Matin St. Barts Monteserrat. With a chapter on the "rioting in St. Kitts. Williams as "a young man of 22 at such stirring times it was natural enoguht that he should heed the call of his country and enter the army. He enlisted as a private in the spring of 1862 in the Fourth Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteers." VERY GOOD- HARDCOVER blue cloth covers with gilt lettering bright on the spine and cover lower corners of the book are worn and also some wear to spine edges. Hard Cover. L’auteur est un avocat et notaire royal établi Spencer Street à Clerkenwell (quartier d’Islington à Londres).“Je laisse à ceux qui en ont fait la triste expérience à décider combien de frais et de dépenses inutiles auraient pu empêcher la publication de cet écrit, si elle avait eu lieu plutôt” dit le royal notaire dans la préface. Il n’a pas voulu publier son livre en anglais, sachant qu’il serait critiqué par les gens de sa profession qui ne lui pardonneront pas “d’avoir révélé des choses qu’ils ont intérêt à tenir cachées”. Exemplaire avec des NOTES AUTOGRAPHES de l’auteur indiquant son adresse, précisant qu’il parle français, qu’il fait procurations, certificats et contrats de mariage.Ce guide juridique pour immigrés, paru sous Napoléon, est un document très intéressant. Il semble très rare.

In an appendix are 5 tables on 2 folding leaves that enumerate Catholic seminaries societies universities including those with little or no Catholic professors and more. Fairly early information on some of these locations. Remarkably scarce only 2 institutions recording ownership according to OCLC. Stiftungs-Bureau unknown
