An Original Handwritten and Signed Royal Letter Signed by Future Canadian Governor General Prince Arthur Duke of Connaught and His Wife Princess Louise Margaret of Prussia. Signed with their maiden names. Dated 1887. Prince Arthur Duke of Connaught and Strathearn Arthur William Patrick Albert; 1850 - 1942 was the seventh child and third son of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. He served as Governor General of Canada the tenth since Canadian Confederation and the only British prince to do so. Princess Louise Margaret of Prussia Louise Margaret Alexandra Victoria Agnes; 1860 -1917 later Duchess of Connaught and Strathearn was a member of the House of Hohenzollern who married into the British royal family. She served as the viceregal consort of Canada while her husband Prince Arthur Duke of Connaught and Strathearn served as the governor general from 1911 to 1916. . Size is 180mm x 115mm. Before receiving Lady Ashbourne’s invitation ‘The Duke & Duchess of Abercorns sic my Cousins had begged us attend a Masonic Concert the 18th. & we accepted & now the Duchess writes they will be at the Vice Regal Lodge so perhaps all are going for the Second Part from your Dinner otherwise the Prince does not like to throw over the Abercorns we are so vexed & not our fault’. Cest pendant sa captivit et les sjours qui lui sont autoriss Paris quAuguste de Prusse fit la connaissance de Juliette Rcamier chez Madame de Stal. De vifs sentiments naissent entre eux, et une promesse crite de mariage crite est change. Mme Rcamier ira jusqu prier son poux de consentir leur divorce, ce quil refusera. La rupture ne mettra pas un terme leur relation puisquils continueront de scrire jusqu la mort du prince.

Créateur d'une institution d’enseignement (le 'Philanthropinum'), Basedow exerça une influence considérable en Europe, mais rencontra une forte opposition des milieux religieux. Il eut le mérite de mettre en pratique, dans un climat de tolérance, des principes hérités en partie de Rousseau : enseigner par l’exemple et le raisonnement, rendre l’étude attrayante, supprimer la fatigue et l’ennui, substituer l’émulation aux châtiments et offrir la plus grande place aux activités physiques et à l’hygiène du corps. "Il provoqua en Europe un mouvement d'idées qui ne s'arrêta plus" (cf.
