brossura Il romanzo incompiuto di Novalis "Enrico di Ofterdingen", pubblicato postumo nel 1802, vuole essere - in voluta polemica nei confronti degli "Anni di apprendistato di Guglielmo Meister" di Goethe - un percorso di formazione alla poesia: non all'ars poetica, bensì a quella forza sommersa che, sepolta nell'animo del protagonista, deve essere risvegliata anche nella natura. Se la tipologia iniziatica del romanzo corrisponde all'idea di una poesia ispirata dall'alto, essa è altresì funzionale a suggerire, per via intuitiva, ciò che è ineffabile, ossia la poesia stessa. Oltre a una serie di indicazioni esplicite su come debba intendersi la poesia, l'"Enrico di Ofterdingen" ha anche un livello più riposto - e forse più interessante - da cui si può ricavare una poetica implicita ricca di suggestioni (in particolare l'autoreferenzialità dell'arte e lo straniamento come principio fondante dell'opera letteraria) che saranno raccolte, a distanza di decenni, nella letteratura tedesca e europea.
