Pindemonte who was a Veronese author born into an aristocratic family was 28 when this was published; later the political and humanist ideas that were the basis of the French Revolution had a major effect on his work. He also spent much of his life translating The Odyssey published 1822. Girolamo Pompei 1731-88 was also a poet and translator from Verona known for his renditions of Plutarch and Ovid.
