In 1921 they bought the Villa Razzolini and their home became a meeting place for intellectuals visiting Florence. From the mid 1930s they lived in Switzerland, New York and Dublin, but in 1947 they returned to their villa in Florence. After her death in 1971 the villa was left to the John Hopkins University".
