EXCERPT: The river meanders through the valley and the valley is so narrow you can see it is a valley. It is bounded on either side by undulating ranges. Two peaks mount suddenly from the billowy skyline and rear themselves proudly above their fellows. These are the Twin Mountains and one who climbs them may look down upon Joppa village follow the windings of the Jerusalem river as far as Pisgah and even farther and survey all the sweet country between green and fair like a living map. But if you are a canoeist on a river far otherwise. Your horizon is quaintly circumscribed by silver-yellow willow-trees by evergreen shades down to the water's edge and you are mystified by the river's serpentine course being often in doubt as to whether that shimmering loop ahead of you belongs to the past or the future voyaging.
