The cloth boards have wear to top and base of spine corners and edges in spots some of the previous owners have signed and dated book. I did not see an earlier printing for the book so likely a first edition. The front hinge has a two cm tear at the base and the rear hinge has a two cm tear middle of the hinge. The book has 586 pages with Ulm and Umbria being the last two words in the index so a page of the index may be missing. It was an action to cover the sum of £259.17s.3d for board and lodging and necessaries supplied to the defendants wife. The defendant pleaded that the goods and necessaries were not supplied to his wife and this was the only issue raised by the pleadings. Mr.Sergeant Sullivan stated the case. The action he said rested on the well settled principle of law that if a husband turned his wife out of doors without cause he sent her into the World as his accredited agent and he was responsible for her reasonable support."
