PARIS, Didier & Cie, 1879 - Edition originale - In-8, 14 x 22,5cm- Broché - couverture muette - rouseurs - VII & 569 pages Intéressante étude historique, linguistique, religieuse de la France Primitive.
An attractive but rather strangely contorted map of the mainland and islands, with the Orkneys delineated in an inset panel. Very detailed but designed on a projection constricting the north-south axis. Gerard and Leonard Valk are best known as republishers of earlier mapmakers' plates. However, here their own work shows precision in engraving with a wealth of placenames.Copperplate, full original colouring, good condition.
