More than 120 works on paper bear witness to his graphic oscillation between writing and painting. Christian Dotremont (1922-1979), a prominent post-war Belgian artist and co-founder of the CoBrA movement, was one of the first to use writing to create plastic art. His 'logograms', or grafic poems, emerge spontaneously from the meandering brush to produce an unprecedented form of artistic expression. The words that he impulsively lays down on paper seem to be animated by a spirit of their own and end up creating expressive compositions. Writing and painting truly merge and open a path to endless experimentations. The exhibition, showing more than 120 works on paper, photographs, films and never-exhibited-before archive documents, sheds light on the great diversity of Dotremont's logograms. Set foot in the artist's path and discover his wandering creative journey. Besides the logograms, the exhibition also includes a selection of 'word drawings' and 'four-handed works' created with artists such as Pierre Alechinsky, Asger Jorn, Serge Vandercam and Hugo Claus. Artworks by Henri Michaux, René Guiette, Jean Raine, Jules Lismonde and Jacques Calonne also interact with Dotremont's oeuvre. The exhibition has benefited from exceptional loans from the King Baudouin Foundation, via the Dotremont Fund, which belongs to the Foundation. Pierre Alechinsky also contributed to this tribute exhibition, lending the museum never-before-seen works by Dotremont from his personal collection.

Zijn 'logogrammen', of grafische gedichten ontstaan spontaan uit het meanderende penseel en vormen iets nieuws in de kunst. De woorden die hij impulsief op papier zet, zoeken een eigenzinnig tracé dat resulteert in expressieve composities. Schrijven en schilderen vloeien in elkaar over en openen de weg naar eindeloze experimenten. De tentoonstelling belicht de grote verscheidenheid van Dotremonts logogrammen aan de hand van meer dan 120 werken op papier, foto's, films en archiefstukken die voor het eerst aan het publiek worden voorgesteld. Reis mee in het kielzog van de kunstenaar en ontdek zijn slingerende sluipwegen. Naast de logogrammen omvat de tentoonstelling ook een selectie 'woord-tekeningen' en 'vierhandige werken' gecreëerd met o.a. Pierre Alechinsky, Asger Jorn, Serge Vandercam en Hugo Claus. Ook kunstenaars zoals Henri Michaux, René Guiette, Jean Raine, Jules Lismonde en Jacques Calonne interageren met het werk van Dotremont. De tentoonstelling kon rekenen op uitzonderlijke bruiklenen van de Koning Boudewijnstichting, via het Dotremontfonds dat eigendom is van de Stichting. Ook Pierre Alechinsky droeg bij tot deze hommagetentoonstelling en gaf nooit eerder getoonde werken van Dotremont uit zijn persoonlijke collectie in bruikleen aan het museum.

Des notes établissent une chronologie détaillée de l'ensemble des phases de la colonisation, y compris l'arrivée des navires transportant les colons. C'est en 1843 que commença véritablement l'épisode belge de colonisation au Guatemala. Comme en atteste cette brochure de propagande, le Guatemala fut présenté comme un nouvel Eldorado. Cependant, la réalité eut rapidement raison de ce rêve d'expansion en Amérique centrale et dès 1845, la colonie fut abandonnée.

Van Strydonck wordt beschouwd als een van de voorlopers van het luminisme, in 1883 was hij medestichter van de groep "Les XX". Hij schilderde aanvankelijk op realistische wijze, maar evolueerde naar het impressionisme toe. In steeds heviger kleuren gaf hij zijn onderwerpen weer: portretten, landschappen, marines, genretaferelen, stillevens en historische composities. Guillaume Van Strydonck was een van de markante persoonlijkheden van de jaren 1880. Ter gelegenheid van de tentoonstelling in het Museum Charlier wordt hier voor het eerst het werk dat Guillaume Van Strydonck realiseerde tijdens zijn reizen in Florida (1886) en in India (1891-1896) gepubliceerd.
