Contents otherwise very good the folding colored map of Wales at rear has some brownish coffee colored stains. With hand colored frontispiece unmarked colored vignette on title page 468 pp two colored maps the full page one mainly free of stains or foxing. Text otherwise clean. A survey of Wales at that time focusing on biographies its resources agriculture and industries ancient laws statistics business prospects and much else. E. and T. Williams hardcover

A two-panel engraved map printed surface 138 × 332 mm sheet size 252 × 363 mm. Vertical centrefold crease as issued; slight indentations to both panels; very slightly tanned and marked at the edges; in excellent condition. The two panels of the map show the Endeavour River where Cook beached the 'Endeavour' for repairs after striking the Great Barrier Reef in 1770 and Botany Bay respectively. It comes from the first French edition of the official account of the voyage 'Relation des voyages entrepris . pour faire des découvertes dans l'hémisphère méridional' 'Tome III. 17811758Hartford: State of Connecticut Pay-Table Office 1781. Single sheet. Approximately 4" x 6 5/8. Sheet has an old fold crease horizontally lengthwise with short closed tears at each end and a few tiny chips to edges. Slight toning else fine. This partially printed pay order is accomplished by hand and dated October 11th 1781. It directs that 20 pounds sterling be paid to Deputy Quartermaster Pomeroy out of the "Tax of Two Shillings and Six Pence on the Pound granted by the General Assembly in May last and charge the State." It is signed by Eleazer Wales and Hezekiah Rogers as members of the Committee of the Pay-Table. Rogers has signed vertically across the signature of Wales as was his habit. Signed in type by Connecticut State Treasurer John Lawrence. <br /> <br /> Ralph Pomeroy 1737-1819 was responsible for paying soldiers and making other disbursements in his role as Deputy Quartermaster and paymaster. Pomeroy has endorsed the order on the reverse.<br /> <br /> This simple document served an important purpose in financing the Revolutionary War in Connecticut is signed by three influential citizens of that state and is a tangible relic of those momentous days. Revolutionary War period payment order signed by Wolcott and Wales paying Shipman two Pounds ten shillings and endorsed by Shipman. Connecticut official Oliver Wolcott was a Major General and Secretary of the Treasury under Washington succeeding Alexander Hamilton and was later Governor of Connecticut. Shipman later attained the rank of Colonel in the First Battlation of the Connecticut State Militia. unknown

Echoing an emerging theme he asserts that God has singularly blessed this country. But we have not sufficiently discharged our "obligations to those who have voluntarily taken an hazardous or an expensive part in effecting our late happy revolution." At very least the bondholders should be paid and not in depreciated currency which is destroying the country.
