An octavo leaflet verso blank; imprint details slightly shaved at the foot; left-hand margin shows evidence of the item having been bound at some stage now disbound; a very good copy. The characters include: The Emperor of Java Major von Glozen 'a Commander of Troops in the Service of the Dutch East India Company'; Snichersnee 'a Serjeant in the Dutch Service'; and Baspa and Cojo 'Black Eunuchs of the Emperor's Harem'. The bottom half of the handbill advertises the second half of the evening's entertainment a 'New Serio Comic Ballet of Action' called 'Philip Quarl; or The English Hermit'. New Theatre-Royal unknown
110563A very large advertisement on thick card recently mounted and matted visible image size 508 × 778 mm; laid down on the card are six original gelatin silver photographs all sepia-toned each one approximately 165 × 230 mm. The photographs are in two rows of three with captions underneath. The top three show workers on plantations supplying goods primarily for the export market: 'Gathering Coffee Berries'; 'Cutting Rice'; and 'Cutting Sugar Cane'. The bottom three are aimed at the tourist market and depict the 'Ancient Hindu Temple Baroe-Boedoer at Djocja'; 'Ever Active Volcano Bromo Tengger Mts'; and 'Scene in the Moluccas'. A few trifling blemishes including a short scratch to one photograph but overall it is a rare example of a superb period-piece in excellent condition now protected in a custom-made Mylar pocket. unknown

Vivid poster art featuring a Javanese dancer the exotic centrepiece of a 1950s advertising brochure for letterpress and offset printing. The artist Simon Vanderlaan 1904- 1986 began his career in Chicago creating theatre posters before moving to Los Angeles in the 1930s. He memorably illustrated the cover of the 1939 Official Guidebook to the Golden Gate international Exposition and a propaganda poster now sought-after for Douglas aircraft in the 1940s. The verso of the brochure "It's a Colorful Old World" includes costumed images for China Holland and Bavaria also by Vanderlaan: alluring images for the traveller in prosperous post-war America. <br> <br>The Manz Corporation was founded in Chicago in the 1860s as a wood-engraving business.
