First edition of this commemorative publication produced 18 years after the company's founding advertising "progress" in trade and railway construction. Investors are urged to apply to the company's offices in Leadenhall Street for land and concessions. The photographs are predominantly the work of two of the company's officers Dr G. N. Johnstone and A. J. West. They include "The first train in North Borneo 3rd February 1898" the train was named "Progress" "Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee June 22nd 1897" "The Sultan of Sulu and Suite" "Chinese mummers" and portrait photographs of prominent British officials.
