Unobtrusive private library stamp on front free endpaper. A very good copy. A defense of Peruvian patriotism and of Peru's policies toward Chile and Bolivia. The unnamed author confronts the issue of Peruvian hatred of foreigners and resulting aggression towards Chile and Bolivia. At the time the three nations were in a near constant state of revolutionary turmoil characterized by rebel factions and intermittent power struggles. This work is critical of the leadership of Agustin Gamarra whose term as president was drawing to a close in 1833. A rare and early Valparaiso imprint. Not in Palau nor the NUC. An 1835 address by Andrès de Santa Cruz South American revolutionary leader and president of Bolivia from 1829 to 1839 to the people of Peru informing them of the imminent arrival of his army and claiming to be the savior of Peruvian sovereignty and dignity. Santa Cruz waged several campaigns to subjugate Peru and to unite it with Bolivia in the 1830s and finally did so in 1837. Extremely rare with only one copy noted by OCLC. Also included is commentary on a recently established London mining concern with interest in the rich mining districts of Peru. Quite rare. The serial was published from 1825 to 1829. The majority of the text describes the government regulations under which the publication operates with a comment on the state of education at the end. 18292505Arequipa 1829. 4pp. on a bifolium. Removed from a bound volume. A few small areas of worming slightly affecting text. Light toning and scattered faint foxing. An unrecorded and indignant diatribe concerning a mud-slinging match in the Peruvian town of Arequipa in the late 1820s which begins "Bien ruidosa ha sido la causa de los libelos famosos que corrieron ahora pocos meses en esta capital contra personas las mas notables de ella." The rest of the bifolium gives an account of the convoluted events that apparently involve several episodes of clear libel by several individuals for which their victims are having difficulty in obtaining legal remedy with the result that scandalous lies are now being spread with impunity. The author concludes by pleading for more swift reliable justice and equality before the law from authorities in Arequipa:<br /> <br /> "Si os mostrais débiles y preferis la inaccion sereis indignos de los destinos que ocupais. Patriotas y no patriotas todos son iguales ante la ley y no debeis permitir nunca que triunfe la impunidad: gloriaos en fin de padecer por la justicia pues asi dais el debido lleno à vuestros cargos."<br /> <br /> Surviving printing from Arequipa during this period is very scarce. unknown
