First issued in 1872 and replaced by a revised code in 1971 this penal code was important because it formally endorsed such principles as the assumption of innocence until proven guilty and the prohibition of arrests without warrants. Offenses covered include abortion adultery illegal marriages dueling and homicide among others. OCLC locates 6 copies in North American law libraries GWU Harvard Library of Congress Tulane University of Michigan Yale. Another copy located at UC-Berkeley Law School.
