This book examines the role oil has played in conflicts around the globe over the last century. It looks at the actions governments and multinational companies have taken to secure their oil supplies since the 1920s, examining accusations that they promote conflict and support corrupt or violent regimes.
Peu courante 1ère édition de cet ouvrage du futur grand géographe libertaire Elisée RECLUS (1830-1905): en exil après 1851, il entreprend un très long voyage (Londres, Irlande, Etats-Unis, Mexique, Amérique centrale) qui le mènera, en 1855, en Nouvelle Grenade (Colombie), dans le massif de la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, où il tentera vainement, sans capitaux suffisants et malade, de fonder une exploitation agricole. De retour en France en 1857, il exploitera ses notes de voyages et publiera ses premiers articles, géographiques et politiques, sur le continent américain (dont "La Nouvelle Grenade, paysages de la nature tropicale", en 1859), puis, en 1861, ce "Voyage à la Sierra-Nevada de Sainte Marthe."
