Prima edizione italiana First Italian Edition. <em>Sergio Larrain ha visitato Londra nel 1958: di fronte a lui una città saldamente ancorata alle sue tradizioni di divisione di classe ancora percepibili in ogni luogo. Tuttavia pronti ad affiorare c'erano anche i segnali di una società in evoluzione. Nelle sue strade nei suoi parchi nei suoi club e cafè Larrain testimonia una città" in movimento verso un nuovo decennioo. Mai piubblicate prima queste eloquenti fotografie sono il ritratto vivido e presente di una Londra scomparsa ormai da tempo.<br /><br />"L'atmosfera sia come la intendeva Brandt sia intesa in senso metereologico è"; palpabile nelle fotografie di Larrain di una Londra invernale densa di smog e di fumi di carbone ulteriormente accentuata dall'uso di un apparecchio fotografico di piccole dimensioni e di una pellicola in bianco e nero a grana grossa. Tutto questo unito alla spontaneità e ad un occhio straordinario per la composizione e le connessioni visive dà alle fotografie di Larrain un carattere distintivo che le rende altamente personali e al tempo stesso documenti significativi del periodo. Nella loro sfida ai consueti clichè pittorici esse si accomunano forse al famoso lavoro di Robert Frank The Americans pubblicato per la priam volta a Parigi nel 1958. The first part is entitled, A Sketch of Chile Expressly Prepared for the Use of Emigrants from the United States and Europe, describes geography, geology, islands, botany, zoology, history, government, treaties, commerce, steam navigation, agriculture, mines, coal fields, railways, manufacturing, colonization, etc. The second part, Chili, the United State and Spain, gives further details on the country including government, coffee, etc but gives considerable detail on the war with Spain, the Monroe Doctrine, speeches, press reports, and postscripts. An important historical document.

Some browning to title else clean and very good. <br /> <br /> Very scarce house document which includes the report of two important surveys by Theodorick Bland 1776-1846 on Chile and Argentina. Bland was selected by President Monroe for a special diplomatic mission the South American Commission of 1817-1818. Several in the commission provided reports but most were strictly concerned with political military and commercial matters.
