McNutt was born in Nova Scotia in 1839: educated at Dalhousie University Halifax. He received his medical education at the University of Vermont the Royal College of SurgeonsEdinboro and the Royal College of Physicians Edinboro; he also studied at Harvard University the College of Physicians and Surgeons New York and at Paris and London. For many years he was Professor of the Principles and Practice of Medicine at the University of California. McNutt was made a Royal Arch Mason and Knight Templar in 1882 This is reflected in certain objects depicted in his bookplate.CONDITION: glue residue on verso else a clean bright example.
