A quarter page sheet included with the calendar recounts the story of their birth and the valiant effort made by the attending physician to keep them alive. “During the past 500 years births of 30 other quintuplets have been reliably reported but none every lived more than five days.â€

After four months with their family the Red Cross took custody of the babies and paid for their care. Invoking Napoleon Lincoln the founding Fathers of the United States and other historical figures and events the writer pleads for the Allies' just motivations for waging war to a war-weary Canadian public. The writer further offers justification for the continuation of the system of conscription a denunciation of those men who would invoke their "disabilities of conscience"; writing bitterly of those men "wiling to fabricate "conscientious scruples" in order to avoid service noting the "bitterness with which a man who is required to leave wife children and livelihood and does so with a quiet dignity of which I have been a respectful witness in hundreds of cases regards a conscientious objector remaining at home and enjoying the fruits of other men's sacrifices.". A remarkably well-preserved piece of First World War ephemera from a decidedly Canadian perspective. [Government of Canada] | The Military Service Council unknown
