329 p. + Two frontis lithographs produced by Sarony, Major and Knapp from ambrotypes. Damp stained. 12mo. 19 cm. Original full cloth binding, faded. A wonderful descriptive account of travel in Nova Scotia. In addition to observations on the Anglo/French culture of the Acadians, there are many interesting historical remarks, including comments on the Negroes of Nova Scotia. Cozzens was a curious character. He was the author of the popular 'Sparrowgrass Papers', and was well known as a humorist. His primary business was as an "importer, and dealer in wines, brandies, segars, and fine groceries, agent for the sale of Longworth's Ohio wines, No. 85 Chambers Street, two doors from the Irving House and Broadway, New York." Around 1856 he was also an auctioneer selling "rare and choice old wines , selected and imported by J. B. Monnot, late of the New York Hotel." "I do not think that an Acadian would cheat, lie, or steal; I know that the women are virtuous, and if I had a thousand pounds in my pocket I could sleep with confidence in any of their houses, although all the doors were unlocked and everybody in the village knew it." - 'A Month With the Blue Noses' (p. 60). **PRICE JUST REDUCED!
