Nel ricostruire la vita del capo Cavallo Pazzo, il figlio del tuono e della grandine, che nel 1876 sconfisse il 7º Cavalleggeri di Custer nei pressi del Little Bighorn, Vittorio Zucconi ha scoperto molto più di un messia guerriero con una penna di falco rosso tra i capelli: ha incontrato la vita quotidiana, le donne, i bambini, gli amori, i riti e la disperazione di quello che fu un magnifico popolo di liberi cacciatori, i Lakota Sioux delle Grandi Praterie americane, distrutti dall'invasione dei bianchi. Ne è uscito "Gli spiriti non dimenticano", un racconto struggente e meraviglioso, che nessun "viso pallido" potrà leggere senza un brivido di tenerezza e di vergogna. The Indian War information is rarely encountered. This volume bears an inscription: 'Compliments of C.J. Humanson, Civil War Record Clerk, St. Paul, Minn. May 20, 1911.'
