Includes 2 letters from Stassen on his letterhead dated September 2 and October 20 1947 in which he thanks a supporter for her donations to the Stassen Presidential campaign his second of what would eventually be 12 runs. The second letter written at the start of his national campaign is especially hopeful: "There is every indication in recent polls and comments of Republican leaders that we are in an excellent position as we round the turn of the year and start down the stretch. My recent journey through New England sparkled with good news." The third letter also dated September 2 1947 on personal letterhead by Alfred D. Lindley Treasurer of Stassen's Minnesota Fund and former Olympic gold medalist rowing 1924 thanking the addressee for "a very handsome contribution". Lindley concludes his missive with "Dewey has declined considerably from his peak. The Eisenhower boom is not yet serious and we firmly believe that when Harold starts his formal campaign sometime this fall that you will see a marked increase in confidence in his ultimate success" <br/><br/> unknown books

Caldwell 1772-1853 was a student and at times a critic of Benjamin Rush and founder of the Louisville Medical Institute. He was one of several American physicians of the early nineteenth century who popularized the term "physical education" by which they meant the instruction of children in all matters relating to the body and its overall health. In this work which achieved national recognition Caldwell argues that physical education is an essential companion to moral and intellectual education for without it "man cannot attain the perfection of his nature." It should include "every thing that by bearing in any way on the human body might injure or benefit in its health vigor or fitness for action" including "diet cleanliness clothing atmospherical temperature respiration muscular exercise sleep and animal passions. It was the home of Ygnacio del Valle a Californio alcalde of the Pueblo de Los Angeles in the 19th century and later elected member of the California State Assembly. The ranch was known as the Home of Ramona because it was widely believed to have been the setting of the popular 1884 novel Ramona by Helen Hunt Jackson. Hays was the honoree of that year's banquet awarded the 1938 Gold Medal Award of Achievement for " . a spirit inseparably connected with the development of the industry to the high position it enjoys today" and "as the representative of this great industry"motion picture industry. Hays was most famously known as the first President of Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America MPPDA which under his guidance published a blacklist of actors and workers studios should not hire inserted moral clauses into actors' contracts and published an informal list of suggested guidelines for film producers. When the Catholic Church formed its Legion of Decency and threatened nationwide boycotts of movies Hays installed a more formal production code called the Hays Code later simply "The Code" which became the virtual law of Hollywood until the 1960s. The Poor Richard Club was privately-founded in Philadelphia in 1906 and comprised mainly of persons in the advertising industry. Compelling articles include Ephedra Congo Medicine and The Medicine Man; with an early article about "Dr. Seuss" and his early illustrating work for The Standard Oil Company of New Jersey. The story goes something like this: After one of Geisel's cartoons that appeared in Judge Magazine mentioned FLIT a common bug spray at the time Geisel signed on with The Standard Oil Company and produced illustrations from May 31 1928 through 1941 which in turn helped him gain notoriety and landed him assignments with Life Liberty and Vanity Fair. Additionally a full two-page center spread color illustrated of Garbo in 1915 and again in 1933. This publication seems to be the first and last published. Covers chipped rubbed and soiled. At the beginning of her career Gina tried passing herself off as a French actress but was later discovered to be born and bred from Cincinnati. Gina's most famous movie roles were "Waltz Time" 1933 "Chamber of Horrors" 1940 and "Jack of All Trades" 1936. As her screen career began to falter she concentrated on performing in regional repertory theaters in the U.S. and Canada. Married to Romney Brent. <br /> <br />Romney Brent 1902-1976 Romulo Larralde Romney was a diplomat's son Mexican-born actor who made his debut in 1922 in the Theater Guild's production of "He Who Gets Slapped." Acting in more than 35 plays most of them on Broadway including "The Fourposter" in 1953 in which he and Sylvia Sydney costarred in the roles created by Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy. Brent both wrote and directed in the US and abroad also appearing in a number of films including "The Adventures of Don Juan" starring Errol Flynn.
