Klaphecks Malstil vereinigt Merkmale des Neorealismus, Surrealismus und der Pop Art (noch bevor diese als solche in Erscheinung trat) zu einem eigenen Stil, an dem er bis heute festhält. Seit den 1950er Jahren malt er präzise, gegenständlich, oft großformatig und scheinbar realistisch technische Geräte, Maschinen, Apparate und Alltagsgegenstände, doch seltsam verfremdet und neu komponiert, so dass sie zu Dämonen, Ikonen oder Monumenten werden.
