A detailed 1935 map of Los Angeles provided as a promotional item by Bekins Van & Storage Co. which had moving offices and storage facilities across California during the Depression. The present map positions downtown Los Angeles at center right and its four corners extend to Inglewood West Hollywood Elysian Park and Huntington Park with Bekins buildings marked across the city. The verso prints a street index and a text advertising Bekins services illustrated with images of company vans employees and facilities. unknown books

Bifolium. 11" x 9-1/2" <br/><br/>An uncommon early menu from Anthony's Fish Grotto with b/w photographic vignettes of Catherine "Mama" Ghio her two sons Anthony and Tod and her son-in-law Roy Weber to the front. Catherine opened the restaurant in 1946 when she was in her fifties and a widowed mother of three. It soon became a landmark of the city's cuisine opening several other locations and moving to its most well-known location on waterfront in the 1960s. After over 70 years of business the San Diego restaurant closed in 2017 when its lease with the city expired; its La Mesa location is still operating. [Anthony's Fish Grotto] unknown books

Apparently he lost the election and was appointed San Francisco's Police Commissioner. Barry owned the Star newspaper and was a tireless campaigner against corruption and for electoral reform. Barry's papers are at the Bancroft Library at UC Berkeley BANC MSS 96/186 c. A rare publication documenting the political atmosphere of this election. No copies listed on OCLC. W. A.
