Granger born in Connecticut and a Yale graduate would become the Post-Master General under President Thomas Jefferson. While he would fail in a congressional bid in 1798 he would eventually serve in the New York Senate in 1820-1821. ANB.

A report from the Post-Master General and Connecticut native Gideon Granger decrying the discrepancy in income versus revenue along the post roads. The two large folding tables illustrate the post-master's point offering hard data on specific post roads from Worcester to Knoxville and numerous points in between. "Granger used his Connecticut connections to keep Jefferson informed of secessionist plots and other facets of New England politics. He used his postal connections to keep a close watch on Aaron Burr's devious machinations in the West" - ANB. The present report includes a bevy of data from these key western routes. Rare. (coiffes manquantes, charnières fendillées, coins émoussés, fente de 3cm à la carte). Le texte est gravé par Bourgouin Ainé. Sur le titre présence d'une vignette aux armes du comte Dargenson, sur fond de la Grand croix de l'Ordre Royal et Militaire de St Louis. Une carte dépliante in-fine gravée sur bois en noir : " Carte Générale des Postes de France dressée sur les Observations de l'Académie " (gravée par Desbrulinx). RARE avec la carte.

Dressée par Ordre de Monseigneur Amelot, Chevalier Marquis de Combronde etc., Ministre et Secrétaire d'Etat, Comandeur des Ordres du Roy, Grand Maître et Sur-Intendant Général des Couriers, Postes et Relais de France pour le Service du Roy et la Comodité du Public. Une carte annoncée dans les exemplaires vendus reliés et non dans ceux brochés, elle ne figure pas dans cet exemplaire qui a vraissemblablement été relié aprés. "On est averty qu'à l'entrée et à la Sortie des Villes de Paris, Lyon et les Endroits ou le Roy fait son séjour, les Postes se payent doubles et Rouen pour la Sortie seulement" ! Contient également la liste des Postes de Bayonne à Madrid. Reliure frottée avec petit manque de cuir à la coiffe, mors fendu, coins émoussés, papier bruni par endroits. Peu courant.
